K-12 Projects - Potter Elementary

This project included both new construction and the renovation of existing and occupied school facilities. We completed work two months ahead of schedule - all within the budget! It is of particular importance to note that Allstate worked closely with the District Safety Coordinator, the school administration and the sub-consultants to make the safety and security of the school children, teachers and staff their highest priority. Allstate's Management Plan and phasing plan carefully delineated construction areas with both fencing and signage to keep unauthorized individuals from straying into areas of potential danger. Our Superintendent met regularly with the Principal and staff to alert them to changes in work areas that would affect their daily routine. By communicating with all the stakeholders, Allstate kept children, staff, educators and workers safe. The scope of work included twelve new classrooms and a media center; renovation of nine existing buildings including the administration building and cafeteria; upgrading the parking lot and stormwater drainage. After demolition of specific buildings, portable classrooms were set up on-site to maintain classes while existing classroom buildings 1, 4, 5 and 7 were being renovated. To expedite the installation of a new water distribution system and new electrical distribution system, Allstate cut only the specific wall sections where pipe and conduit ran, replacing the deteriorating systems with the new. This process not only saved time, but also saved the Owner money. When these buildings were complete and reopened, the renovation of Buildings 3, 6, 8 and 9 began and the same approach was utilized with them. Concurrent with the renovation work was the construction of the new classroom buildings and Media Center. In addition, saving the grand oak tree in front of the Media Center was a critical issue and one that could have caused delay. In order to accomplish saving this spectacular oak without losing time, Allstate required the subcontractor to use an alternate means of compaction. As a result, this tree will provide shade for many years to come. Rowe Architects' Principal-in-Charge Larry Wilder said, "This has been the easiest school project I have ever worked on. By setting mutual goals to satisfy the client, we were able to exceed even our own expectations." Contract Administrator Eric Rice concurred, "This team has everything running smoothly. It makes my work easier."
